The Background

Established in 1851, Moss Bros is one of the leading names on the high street for men’s formal clothing and occasion wear hire. There are currently 150 Moss Bros stores located across the UK and the company operates UK franchises for Hugo Boss and Canali, Cecil Gee and Moss Direct.

The Challenge

James Whitelock, IT Technical Projects Manager at Moss Bros explained: “We were already installing a new EPoS system and needed to make the most of the benefits this would bring to the company. One of the key things we wanted to update was our dial connection. In order to utilise an efficient and secure data network that would allow faster transactions and enable us to view information in real time, we needed to switch to IP.”

Moss Bros needed to leverage its IT and communications infrastructure to make the business more cost-effective in response to a highly competitive market.

The Solution

Daisy proposed to implement a VPN solution with ADSL connection into the Moss Bros branches – two independent routed leased lines which connect into the payment gateway and a leased line with failover into the head office.

Voice services, comprising of line rental and calls, were also included within the Daisy solution to help reduce costs and consolidate services to just one provider.

The Result

The benefits of implementing the Daisy solution have been numerous.

James Whitelock explains: “One of the key advantages of the new solution is the ability to access real time sales updates and stock enquiries across the business, which obviously allows us to offer a better service to our customers.

“One of our main objectives when updating our IT system was to have an efficient and cost-effective network for communications. The ADSL connection and email access allows this to happen, as well as providing other benefits such as increasing the speed of our payment systems. Credit card transactions are now five to six times quicker than previously, reducing the amount of time a customer has to wait at the point of sale.

“We have a much faster internet connection thanks to the ADSL, and the leased lines provide us with an extremely reliable connection. We also have the peace of mind that, should an issue occur, an automatic back-up will kick in, meaning reduced downtime for the stores and our service to customers will not be affected.”
